Stems (UK) formed in 2011 with the idea of seeking a new relationship between experimental guitar and classical instruments, to create music with the energy of rock music but with elongated and intense structures of Western and Indian classical music. Stems is made up of John Dorr (guitar, arrangements), Christine Avis (cello) Asher Leverton (percussion).

They have first toured Europe in 2013 and have since developed a reputation for intense and beautiful concerts. Their Vrijplaats performance will be a very special one as they will perform 2 sets. The first will see them provide a live alternative soundtrack to three silent movies by turn of the century cinematic visionary artist Georges Méliès including his famous “Le voyage dans la lune” (1902). For their second set they will perform a classic Stems set, thus providing us with the best of two world and a unique evening!

The name Stems is derived from the idea of roots diverging to produce unique strands, all of which are bound to a central body.
